CRISIS INTERVENTION

Important: If you, or someone you know is suicidal Dial 2-1-1 for immediate help!

Crisis Intervention is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year via the three digit dialing code 2-1-1 or 1-866-882-2991.

Trained staff and volunteers provide immediate support to callers who:

  • are in acute emotional distress;
  • are or perceive themselves to be in life-threatening situations;
  • are in danger to themselves or to others
  • are hysterical, frightened or otherwise unable to cope with a problem

The objective of Crisis Intervention is to:

  • defuse the critical nature of the situation;
  • ensure the person's safety;
  • and return the individual to a state of equilibrium in order to capably identify and seek solutions to the problem.

Crisis Intervention staff and volunteers:

  • listen actively with concern;
  • encourage open expression of feelings;
  • help the person gain an understanding of the crisis;
  • help the individual gradually accept reality;
  • help the person explore ways of coping;
  • and link the person to social services.
